Making Tax Digital for Income Tax: The complete guide for accountants and bookkeepers

In 2026, HMRC will launch the next phase of its plans to digitalise the tax process in the UK under their Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self-Assessment (MTD for ITSA) initiative. With the new rules, self-employed and landlords who earn more than £50,000 in a tax year will need to submit regular updates to the HMRC and use MTD-compatible software to keep digital records. follow in 2027.
